I can't believe that it is almost May already.  Still trying to find out where Christmas went.  Just wanted to make you aware of a few upcoming events.

        Look for Report cards to come home with your students today.
Friday, October 24 - No School - P/T Conf Day
Monday October 27 - Utah Symphony & Pizza Party
        Wear nice clothes and bring a home lunch unless you signed up for a school sack lunch.
        Our Pizza party will be at 2:00 YUM!
October 27-31 - Red Ribbon Week
        Monday - Best Dress Day
        Tuesday - Inside-out Shirt Day
        Wednesday - Crazy Hair Day (no hats, wigs or coloring)
        Thursday - School Spirit Day (Wear your Brookside Tiger Shirt)

Class Stuff
  • Our class earned the upper-grade pizza party from the PTA sponsored "No T.V. Week" challenge.  I am so proud of the fun things that members of our class did besides watching T.V.
  • Social Studies - We have started talking about Archaeology.  See our blog.
  • Science - Our weather unit is in full swing.  We have talked about all the different tools that meteorologists (weather scientists) use and also talk about some properties of air. 
  • Math - We have learned about factors and multiples.  We have been exploring perimeter and area.
  • Language Arts -  We have started our guided reading groups up again.  We are reading some of my favorite fantasy books.  We are exploring how Reading is Thinking!
  • 40 Book Challenge - You should have read about 10 books so far to be on track for our challenge.  If you don't have that many then pump it up.
    • Books we have read as a class that will count are: Fourth Grade Rats (RF), first Guided Reading Book (RF), and Come Back Salmon (I).

        We are going to be learning more about rocks
Tuesday, October 14 - Final Test for Multiplication unit
        Please let me know if you are leaving town early for the long weekend.
Wednesday, October 15th - Our Wednesday/Friday for this week.
        Any late work needs to be turned in by today so that it can be recorded for Report cards
Thursday, October 16 & Friday October 17 - No School - Fall Break

  • We have been finishing up our Geography unit in Social Studies.  We have learned many things about our great state.
  • Next week we will started learning about weather. We will talked about all the different tools that meteorologists (weather scientists) use and also talk about some properties of air. 
  • In math we are talking about multiplication. We reviewed what we learned last year in third grade and today we talked about factors and played a fun game called Factor Blaster. For more information about factors and for game instructions see our class website under Curriculum and Math Help.
  • Grades have been updated to include our water cycle test and our addition and subtraction test.
  • I enjoyed talking to almost everyone at SEPs.  You all have great kids.

This week we are going to finish our Realistic Fiction book.  This means that we will all have two of the required three RF books for our 40 Book Challenge.  Remember that you should include books that you read at home in this challenge.

We wrote poems about ourselves and hung them in the hall for you to see at parent teacher conference.  We are now writing a poem about fall.

This week we learned more about Addition and Subtraction.  We will have our test on Friday.  We have started working more with our multiplication fact flash cards too.

Please remember to practice Xtra Math at least 3 days a week.  Already three students have passed off their addition and are on to subtraction.

In Science we have been learning about our water cycle.  Ask your student to sing you our water cycle and tell you about the steps that water takes on our earth.

This week we learned about comparing and rounding numbers as well as density and surface tension.  Take a minute to ask your child how many drops or water they can fit on a single penny...and why!

SEPs will be held Thursday, September 25th from 3:30 to 8:00 pm.  To sign up for an SEP time use your google account or your child’s school google account to sign up for a one time per student at the following link.
