Week 28
This year is just flying past! Today I sent home missing work reports with 18 of my 25 students. Please ask your student if they have one for you to review, sign, and return tomorrow. Just a heads up that I will not be available for SEP/Parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, March 16th. I will be in Salt Lake City to a two-day conference. I would like to plan to meet with each of you around the first part of May. More information will follow. We will begin SAGE year end testing after spring break, so if you know that your student will be missing days please let me know as soon as possible so we can work around the test schedule. Week 23 & 24
Dear Parents, We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. We will be making bags to hold our cards. No Boxes! We have 25 students in our class. Please have a card for each student. You can choose to put student names on your cards or just make sure that you have your name on them. A list was sent home this week. On Wednesday, February 15th we will be showcasing our rocks for the end of our geology unit. The students have worked hard to learn about and present their rocks to you. We will have our walking rock display set up for you to see at 2:50. We had a fairly regular Monday morning after our BIG Assembly. In math, we finished Perimeter & Area and have started our Multiplication Unit. In science, we have started Geology and talked about weathering and erosion. In Social studies, we have been a study of archeology. Keep watching for those blue and green quizzes to come home. Remember when we learn something new we only have to remember it ....FOREVER! |

I was so impressed that I had the opportunity to see every students parents and even some of the students. I really have an amazing class this year! I am already looking forward to Monday! Our field trip to Diamond Fork Canyon was a blast. We learned about life in the river that makes it healthy. We learned about birds of Utah. And we learned about plants that are native to our beautiful state. We had a lot of fun singing on the bus also. We are taking a break from our science to get in a little social studies and more writing. Ask your student to show you the poems that our class posted on our new class blog. This past two weeks be have finished up Factors and Multiples, as well as Prime and Composite numbers in math. Ask your students for definitions. We finished our first reading groups of the year. We all read realistic fiction book. Now we are talking about fantasy and reading more fun books. We should finish these before Thanksgiving. Since we are 1/4 of the way through the year the students should have read about 10 of the 40 books for their "40 Book Challenge" These 40 books include ones they read at school and at home. Ask your student tell you the tools a meteorologist uses to predict the weather that would be great review. In math we are well into our multiplication unit. Ask your student about our fun in & out machines and how they work. Also we are talking about factors (there are a FEW) and multiples (there are MANY) in math. All of my students were so pretty & handsome. They did a great job and enjoyed the event. We have finsihed out math unit on Adding and Subtracting with four digit number. Over all they are doing great! Next is Multiplication. We will be serving lunch next week except on Thursday when we are on the field trip. The days your student helps with lunch they are provided a free school lunch. They can stiill bring a lunch from home if they would prefer. |

For the Symphony Field Trip next Friday, students should wear best dress and not plan on changing
during the day either into or out of their best dress clothes. Since we
will miss our normal lunch time, we are having sack lunches (2 students signed
up for school lunch, everyone else should bring a home lunch) in our classroom
when we get back. To help with PTA No Screen Week, students are bringing home 3 pages of math fact practice that will count instead of their regular XtraMath practice this week. This Week we learned about rounding to the nearest tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred, thousands, and millions. Ask your student to share the rounding rap (We Will Round You) We know the difference between evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We learned about how we are all unique. |

When they finish Multiiplication and Division they can go back and work on addition and subtraction. Remember that it only counts once during the day but they can practice as many times as they want. Start looking for quarter sheet quizzes to come home with your students. Math are blue and Scoence are greeen. They are graded with 1,2, or 3 1 = Skill not mastered 2 = Skill almost masterd 3 = Skill mastered This Week We Learned: ...about multipying and dividing by powers of ten. We can take a recipe for cookies or brownines and make it for ten batches instead of just one, or even a hundred batches. ...more about the water cycyle. October 7th - Homework Due It has been another great week! This past week we have learned more about our number system and why it works so great. In reading we are practicing what we will be doing during our guided reading time which will be starting soon. In science we have started our hydrology unit. We did some fun experiments. Ask your student about our cool "Water Cycle" song. Homework went well last week. Remember to do the front and back of the paper as written. Some are still struggling with XtraMath. Do not to put it off until late in the week or you can't get all three days practice in. If you are struggling getting XtraMath set up on your devise let me know and I can help you through it. Don't buy the app because it works great through the web browser on phones and tablets. Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with me! I love coming to school every day. |
