Terms to Know
Digit - a single symbol. In our number system we use the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0.
Place - where a specific digit is found. In the example above the digit 1 is in the ten thousands place.
Value - how much a specific digit represents. In our base ten system the value of a digit changes with its place. In the example above the 8 in the ten's place represents 80 while the 8 in the thousand's place represents 8,000.
